We are 9 days into the new year. By now you should have your goals set, your objectives outlined, your strategies in place and your tactics to accomplish each step along this year long road. You may have dusted off your “Goal Board” or even purchased some motivational information to kick start your new year. What I find lacking in all the seminars I have attended, books I have read, and motivational videos are actual facts. I realize most of these methods of enlightenment are designed to be motivational in nature. But really, give me something I can sink my teeth in to beside the generic mantra “Take Action”.
When you are setting up your goals, you need to analyze the facts of what you are trying to accomplish. Let me give you an example of factual goal setting:
GOAL: Make $1,ooo a month online
Facts: average of 30 days in a month so take $1,000 / 30 = $33.33 per day. For this example, we will say we have $6.67 of overhead costs per day. This brings our DAILY GOAL to $40.00 per day.
$40.00 Per Day: Whatever product or service you offer, you will need to bring in $40 per day. If you have a $5 product, you will need to make 8 sales a day. If you have a $20 product, it will only take you 2 sales a day.
Devise A Plan: Now you know your daily goal. Devise a plan to meet or exceed this goal. How are you going to make $40 in sales a day? And see, here is where that word ACTION has some meaning – What ACTION STEPS do you need to take to accomplish your daily goal of $40 in sales a day?
Use The Facts
I hope this example gives you a realistic idea of how you need to accomplish your goals for 2013. Analyze your main goal, break it down in to digestible sections, then divide each section in to step by step factual information. Use the factual information to develop the “Action Steps” which will lead to the accomplishment of your daily goal. Remember, you can always revise your “Action Steps” if you know the factual information of what you need to accomplish.
Good luck. Let’s make 2013 the year we actually use achievable factual goals!
